Exalted Ruler Letter for June 2014

May has been a busy month for everyone. The Elks State Convention was held in Asheville the first weekend in May and it was a very successful event. As always, it’s a great time to fellowship with Elks across the state that you may not get to see on a regular basis. You may be interested to know that our Lodge will host the Fall convention right here in High Point. If you’ve never attended, we hope you will come out and join in the fun the last weekend in October. Be on the lookout for more details in the coming months.

Also in May the High Point Lodge officers travelled to the Statesville Lodge to assist in conducting an initiation ceremony. We had a great time helping to initiate 17 new members. Statesville has a smaller membership than some Lodges, but they have worked hard on their recruiting efforts and it is paying off. We wish them all the best.

On May 14th several members hosted the annual Veterans cookout at the Salisbury facility. A big thinks to everyone that helped out with that effort. We also travel to Salisbury the 4th Thursday most months of the year to host bingo and provide sandwiches for Veterans in attendance. They are always very appreciative of our efforts and it is always a rewarding experience for the Elks that participate. As Elks, our primary mission is to provide assistance to Veterans. If you’ve never been to visit the Veterans in Salisbury, I encourage you to call the office and inquire about opportunities to help out.

Our Antlers youth group continues to help out in our community by participating in the Miracle League here in High Point. You can find them on most weekends, either Friday evenings or Saturday morning, helping handicapped children to participate in a friendly and heartwarming game of baseball. These children would not have this opportunity for such activities without the Miracle League and support from organizations like ours.

Don’t forget that we are sponsoring the 1st Annual Andy Albertson Memorial Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 31st. There are still open spots or golfers, so don’t delay in submitting a registration. There will be live music in the lounge that evening and we’ll be hosting a drawing for 2 round trip airfares. Tickets will still be available the evening of the drawing, so come out and support a worthy cause.

As you can see, we have a lot going on at the Lodge and in our community. By the time you read this newsletter the pool will be open for business and summer will be just around the corner. I hope to see you at the Lodge soon!

Fraternally,
Steve Martin
