January was another busy month at the Lodge. High Point hosted the District Deputy Clinic. This event ran smoothly thanks to the help of the Ladies Auxiliary who entertained the visiting spouses, ran the registration and raffle tables and worked the bar. The Ladies did a great job and without their help this event would not have run as smoothly as it did. I also want to thank Doug Orcutt, Greg Conner and Tom Day for cooking our lunch for the event.
We also ran a very successful Hoop Shoot Contest at High Point Central High School. I want to thank our Hoop Shoot Chairman, Tom Adams for running such a great event. He was able to involve many Elk volunteers to help run the contest. It would have been great to see more of our members’ children participate in the contest. Thanks to all who helped with the Hoop Shoot. Winners in each age group received trophies and will move on to the district level in Winston-Salem.
Pool season is just around the corner although it’s hard to think about it with the cold weather we have been having! Our Pool Committee will be having their first meeting this month. Please check the website, www.hpelks.com for details and announcements on the date. Getting the pool ready for opening day takes a lot of effort and any volunteers who want to help out are welcome.
Pool season also brings in a large number of new members. If you have any neighbors or friends that are thinking of joining the Elks before the pool opens in May, remember the process takes several months. In order to be ready for the pool, I recommend that any new prospects get their applications in as soon as possible. Applications are available in the Lounge and in the office.
Our annual Super Bowl Party will take place February 7th. All members and guests are invited to come to the Lodge and watch the big game. The Lodge will be providing chicken and BBQ. We ask that you bring a side dish to share based on you last name. Just check the website, www.hpelks.com for all the details.
I hope you all received your Past Exalted Rulers Association flat screen and blue ray home theater raffle tickets in the mail. The drawing will take place at the Super Bowl Party on February 7th. Buying tickets is an easy way to help fund our PER’s. All proceeds from the raffle are used to fund projects in our Lodge and activities that further Elkdom. If you would like to improve your odds of winning, there are tickets available in the Lounge or contact any of the PER’s.
The House Committee will be hosting your Valentines Day Steak and Salmon night on February 13th. There will be wine specials and a DJ to dance to after your meal for a low fee of $12.99 per person. Please purchase your tickets in advance so we will be able to plan for the right amount of food.
Don’t forget that we will continue to have our Family Burger Nights until the Pool opens every Thursday night. Wednesday nights are our Members only nights; please no guests after 6:00 PM.
I hope to see you all at the Lodge.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Scott Webster, Exalted Ruler
High Point Elks Lodge #1155
