In 2010, the HP Elk’s Swim Team had a record setting year in the SWIM FOR CANCER fundraiser sponsored by the American Cancer Society. SWIM FOR CANCER is the longest, most continuously running fundraiser in the nation for the American Cancer Society.
Members of the swim team solicited sponsors to pay them for each lap they swam during the special SWIM FOR CANCER event held on June 23rd. Bake sales, a “pie the coaches” event, slime contest and a raffle helped to raise additional funds.
This year the HP Elk’s Swim Team raised $8,816.25, a 91% increase over last year’s giving. The team placed 8th out of 23 swim teams in the Greensboro Swim League. We would also like to thank Laura Slack, a former swim coach at the Elk’s who raised $340 and to the Schwenke family for their generous contribution during the July 4th festivities.
In total, the 2010 Community Swimming Association fundraiser netted nearly $200,000 for the American Cancer Society this year alone and nearly $3 million total since its inception.
The swim team would like to thank the following businesses and/or individuals for their contributions to the raffle prizes: All Sports Graphics,Team Connection, Jersey Mike’s, Rol-R-Rink, Lori and Bill Casazza with the YMCA Dolphin Swim Team, Rob Rooks with Star Aquatics, and our own Elk’s Swim Team Coaches!
We hope to have the full support of the every Elk’s member next year as we strive to find a cure for cancer with the American Cancer Society.
Thank you,
Kelsey Dumoulin
