Summer is in full swing now and based on the number of members enjoying the pool it looks like everyone is having a great time. We are off to a fantastic year with new members joining every week. Our overall numbers reflect a positive net gain in new lodge members and pool membership. Special thanks to our Membership Committee for their hard work in promoting our lodge, coming up with new ways to attract members and driving these great results.
Additionally, thanks to our House and Pool committees for all their work in getting ready for the summer. The Pool looks great and we have a tremendous slate of fun events coming up for our members to enjoy in our lounge. Also, special thanks to Any Pearman for organizing a night at the Rockers baseball game for our members.
In addition to our fun social activities, being an Elk involves giving back to our community. Last month we were approved for four different Elks National Foundation grants and one NC Charitable Trust Grant for a total of $11,000. Organizations that will benefit from these grants include: High Point Food Alliance ($3,500), The Heroes Center ($2,500), the Veterans Administration Retirement Home in Kernersville ($2,000), High Point LEAP ($2,000), and Tiny Homes for Veterans ($1,000). You should feel proud that our Lodge focuses on helping those in need in our community.
As I close out this month’s letter, it is with a heavy heart to share the sad news of a new member who passed away on June 24, 2021. Chandler Chavis was initiated into our Lodge the previous evening. Chandler, 24 years old and pregnant, was involved in a tragic car accident. Although a member for just one day, she is forever an Elk. As we recite in our 11:00 toast, “…Elks are never forgotten, never forsaken…”
